CRASH OF A BRISTOL BEAUFORT
AT BAIRNSDALE, VIC
ON 29 SEPTEMBER 1942

 

RAAF Bristol Beaufort, Mark V, A9-1 (RAF Serial No. T9540)

 

RAAF Bristol Beaufort, Mark V, A9-1 (RAF Serial No. T9540), of No. 1 Operational Training Unit, 1 OTU RAAF, overshot Bairnsdale airfield flare path on 29 September 1942 and crashed through the boundary fence.

This aircraft was the first Australian built Beaufort and had its first flight in August 1941. It was delivered to the RAAF in September 1941. After this accident it was placed in storage on 23 October 1945 and then written off in August 1949.
