CRASH OF A KITTYHAWK
IN A PADDOCK NEAR MILDURA AIRFIELD
ON 24 FEBRUARY 1944

On 24 February 1944, Kittyhawk A29-23, of No. 2 Operational Training Unit (2OTU) RAAF, piloted by F/Sgt. R.J. Shepherd (400413) crash landed in a paddock near Mildura airfield.

The Aircraft Accident Data report described the incident as follows:-

"Pilot was carrying out H-dive bombing exercise when his engine failed, picked up momentarily then started running roughly, and lost power causing him to bellyland his aircraft in a nearby paddock."
