CRASH OF A KITTYHAWK
IN A PADDOCK NEAR MILDURA AIRFIELD
ON 24 FEBRUARY 1944
On 24 February 1944, Kittyhawk A29-23, of No. 2 Operational Training Unit (2OTU) RAAF, piloted by F/Sgt. R.J. Shepherd (400413) crash landed in a paddock near Mildura airfield.
The Aircraft Accident Data report described the incident as follows:-
"Pilot was carrying out H-dive bombing exercise when his engine failed, picked up momentarily then started running roughly, and lost power causing him to bellyland his aircraft in a nearby paddock."
I'd like to thank Corporal Darryl Gibbs of the RAAF Wagga Museum for his assistance with details on this crash.
Can anyone help me with more information on this crash?
