On 19 December 1944, Norseman A71-3 piloted by Squadron Leader W. L. Neither of the crew were injured.
On the day of the crash, RAAF Catalina A24-101 from 1 Flying Boat Maintenance Unit based at the Bowen Flying Boat Base in Queensland was sent out to search for Norseman A71-3.
The Norseman was eventually located by another searching aircraft.
The aircraft sustained minor damage to under-cowls on landing but was repairable within 48 hours by its Unit. The aircraft was dismantled and forwarded to the Unit by road.
