22 APRIL 1942
CRASH OF A B-26 MARAUDER AT REID RIVER

A B-26 Marauder, aircraft #40-1447, of 2nd Squadron, 22nd Bombardment Group, found it right tire was flat on landing at Reid River airfield near Townsville at 1530 hours on 22 April 1942. The pilot activated the emergency brakes causing the left main tyre to blow. The B-26 swerved off into the bush and the right engine smashed into a tree. The aircraft was eventually used for spare parts. The Pilot was Lieutenant J.N. Ewbank. The soggy wet airfield was a factor in leading to the crash.
