CRASH LANDING OF A SPITFIRE
AT GAREMA, NSW
ABOUT 20KMS SSW OF FORBES
ON 25 NOVEMBER 1944
RAAF Spitfire, A58-156 piloted by Flt. Lt. John Henry Eric Bisley, DFC, (402720) of No. 8 Operational Training Unit (8 OTU) at Parkes suffered engine failure and crash landed at 6.25 am on 25 November 1944 in a ploughed paddock on a property at Garema owned by the Sharpe family. Garema is located approximately 20 kms SSW of Forbes in New South Wales.
Carl Sharpe was only a very small boy at the time, but he well remembers Flt. Lt. Bisley having breakfast with his family while he waited for the Air Force authorities to arrive. That afternoon the Spitfire was dismantled and loaded onto a convoy of Air Force trucks to be returned to Parkes.
I'd like to thank Carl Sharpe for his assistance with this home page.
Can anyone help me with more information on this crash?
