The Australian Army's ordnance demolition team from Enoggera Barracks, in Brisbane, Queensland travelled to Fairfax Island in early October 2008 to inspect and remove bombs dating back to World War II that were located by two snorkellers in shallow water off the island on 30 October 2008. Queensland Police created a 1 kilometre exclusion zone around Fairfax Island which is located approximately 112kms due east of Gladstone in the Capricorn Bunker Group of islands.
