JAPANESE BOMBING RAID
ON DARWIN RAAF AIRFIELD, NT
ON 4 MARCH 1942
There was a Japanese bombing raid on the Darwin RAAF Airfield at 2.00 pm on 4 March 1942.
One of those killed during this air raid was Arthur Saxon BALD (VX40498), Bombadier, A.I.F., 2/14 Field Regt. - Royal Australian Artillery.
Japanese Version of the Bombing Raid
According to 3rd Ku's (=Kokutai's) Kodochosho:-
1100 9 Zekes and 1 Bab departed at Koepang, Timor.
1330 Strafing at Darwin
1430 They headed for Koepang
1640 All arrived at KoepangA Bab guided 8 Zekes led by Lt. MUKAI, Ichiro and the Zekes shot a Hudson down and destroyed 5 small bombers on the ground.
Ammunition consumed: 20mm x314, 7.7mm x630
