6 APRIL 1942
CRASH OF A B-25 MITCHELL

AT CHARTERS TOWERS

6apr42.jpg (42594 bytes)

B-25C Mitchell, 41-12514, of the 3rd Bomb Group, after a
landing mishap at Charters Towers.  Looks like the pilot standing
at the far right of the picture admiring his handiwork!

NOTE:-  Edward Rogers advised the following on 27 November 2010:-

"The 3rd BG did not crash any of their B-25s on 6 April 1942 - the date of their first combat mission."

"B-25C #41-12514 was one of two bombers that were damaged on their first landing at Charters Towers on 30 March 1942."

So perhaps this accident may have occurred on 30 March 1942. Gordon Birkett advised on 11 Dec 2023 that the correct date was 6 April 1942.
