ANTHONY HUXTABLE FROM BARNSTAPLE

I received the following E-Mail from Vernabelle Massey (Vvmassey@aol.com) on 6 August 1997:-

Hello Peter,

My gggrandmother's name was Elizabeth Huxtable b. abt. 1803 in Barnstaple, the daughter of Anthony and ...mother's name unknown. Elizabeth had a brother Anthony b. 1812 in Barnstaple died March 15, 1889 in Michigan USA, a sister Ellen which I do not know too much about at this time. Elizabeth married William Henry Abbott of Buckfastleigh in Bishops Tawton May 13, 1833. They left England and arrived in the states about 1839 or 40. Lost a child, Edward, while being pulled by a tug down the St. Lawrence River, stayed in Canada for approximately one year before coming to the State of Michigan in the USA in the early 1840's. Elizabeth died 6 September 1854. They had three children, William Henry born 19 February 1835, Edward born about 1836 and Susan born 14 June 1838.

I am interested in knowing the name of Elizabeth's Mother and in securing birth records for the three children. I have the record of the marriage of William Henry and Elizabeth as written in the Parish book, recorded by the Mormon Church. Also when I visited in England in 1990 I was in Barnstaple and visited the Church at Bishop Tawton. At that time I was unable to obtain a copy of the marriage or to look for the birth records of the above. I am a descendant of William Henry born in 1835.

I have looked at your home page. It is most interesting and thanks for adding my Huxtables. Are you related to the other Huxtables that have home pages online?

Will type to you later.

Regards, Vernabelle in Michigan
