CRASH OF A BRISTOL BEAUFORT
AT EAST SALE
ON 20 AUGUST 1943
Bristol Beaufort
On 20 August 1943, RAAF Mark VA Bristol Beaufort, A9-159, turned into the wind and struck a ditch at East Sale when the pilot's foot became jammed behind a rudder pedal. The crew of this aircraft were as follows:-
F/O J.F. Swain
Sgt. W. McQueen
Sgt. J.J. Godfrey
Sgt. J.A. Silcock
Sgt. H.R. Boys
This aircraft was originally delivered to the RAAF in November 1942. The aircraft was converted to components after this crash.
The crew of Sgt's McQueen, Godfrey, Silcock and Boys were killed in Beaufort A9-311 three days later.
