CRASH OF A BRISTOL BEAUFORT
INTO THE CHANNEL BETWEEN VICTORIA LAGOON
AND LAKE WELLINGTON
ON 12 MAY 1944

Bristol Beaufort

 

RAAF Mark VII Bristol Beaufort A9-137 ditched into the channel between Victoria Lagoon and Lake Wellington in the state of Victoria on 12 May 1944 while flying low. Both airscrews hit the surface and the aircraft crashed into the water. The crew of this aircraft were F/Lt. J.L. Legge and P/O I.R. Pittock.

This aircraft was originally delivered to the RAAF in October 1942. It was converted to components after this crash.
