CRASH LANDING OF A BRISTOL BEAUFORT
AT ESSENDON AIRFIELD
ON 9 SEPTEMBER 1942

 

RAAF Mark VI Bristol Beaufort, A9-53 (RAF Serial No. T9605), crash landed at Essendon airfield on 9 September 1942 after an engine failure. 

The crew were as follows:-

Sgt Keith A. Furze (pilot)
James Ian Martin (navigator ) (living in
Woy Woy, NSW in April 2002)
Donald Hamilton Fraser (wireless gunner)
Frank Nugent Douglas (wireless gunner)

This aircraft was originally delivered to the RAAF in May 1942. It was "not taken up".

It crashed again at Forest Hill in New South Wales in July 1943.
