CRASH OF A BRISTOL BEAUFORT
AT EAST SALE, VICTORIA
ON 18 MARCH 1943
Bristol Beaufort
RAAF Bristol Beaufort, Mark V, A9-17 (RAF Serial No. T9556), made a forced landing on 18 March 1943, following an explosion in the port engine. The undercarriage failed to lock causing it to ground loop.
The crew at the time of this accident were as follows:-
F/O A.F. Gillespie (pilot)
P/O J.W. Hall
Sgt. F. Edwards
Sgt. G.K. Bennewith
This aircraft was delivered to the RAAF in February 1942. It was "not taken up" and was converted to Mk. IX RAAF Serial No. A9-701.
Can anyone confirm where this crash occurred?
