DURING WW2

Pearling Lugger Penguin
The "Penguin" was originally built at Thursday Island as the pearling lugger "Mercia". The vessel was used by the American Military forces during WW2. It was returned to the pearling and Trochus-shell industry after the war.
It is now housed in the grounds of the Queensland Maritime Museum near South Bank in Brisbane, Queensland.
The pearling number and star emblem are those of the Dauan (Cornwallis) Island off the Papuan coast.
The Penguin" was lengthened and fitted with an engine in the 1950's.
Can anyone help me with more information?
