HMAS DIAMANTINA

The River Class Frigate, HMAS Diamantina, served in the South West Pacific area during World War 2. She was mainly used as an Anti-Submarine vessel.
The Diamantina was designed in Great Britain and built by Walkers of Maryborough, in central Queensland. She was launched on 6 April 1944. She served in New Guinea and Solomon Islands waters during the latter part of WW2.
The surrender of the Japanese forces at Nauru, Ocean Island and Bougainville Island were signed on board HMAS Diamanatina.
