I believe there was a crash of a WW2 type bomber/aircraft on French Island (VIC) at some time either just before, during or just after WW2. I was in the Navy from 79 - 89 and spent time over at French Island with the recruits from Cerberus. The local map of the Island noted the site of a crashed bomber being at the end of their dirt runway. We went looking for it with some recruits but found no remains. The Island Ranger, stated that locals probably have bits of it in their sheds. Can you verify this crash.
Good luck and a great site.

Welcome back. The only aircraft that crashed on French Is that I know was Vultee Vengeance A27-627. It crashed in mud near Fairhaven on the 30/7/45 after engine failure. It was from Station Flight Laverton. The pilot was L. M. Bennett (437042) and D. Scholz. The aircraft was later destroyed with explosives by the RAAF.
Regards
Rick Hanning.
Can anyone help me with more information on this crash?
