Sergeant Raymond Clyde Charlton (411862) aged 20 years and Flight Sergeant William Edward Littlejohn (4629) aged 24 years, both of 1 Wireless and Gunnery School Ballarat, were on a test flight in a Wackett Trainer aircraft A3-59 on 31 December 1942, and flying low when their aircraft struck trees and crashed at Brewster near Beaufort in Victoria at 8.45am. Charlton and Littlejohn were both buried in Ballarat New General Cemetery.

Charlton was working in the plan printing section of the Property and Survey Branch of the Department of Interior when he enlisted in June 1941 in the RAAF.

The probably cause of the crash was listed as "Probable low flying" on the "Preliminary Report (External) of Flying Accident or Forced Landing" form.
