On 17 March 1943, RAAF Wirraway crashed into Lake 400 metres from the shore. What is believed to be the wreckage of this aircraft was rediscovered in early June 2006, as water levels in the lake receded due to drought conditions. The site was reported to Heritage Victoria by officers from Parks Victoria. They indicated that the wreckage appears to be intact and is still mostly submerged.

Heritage Victoria protects any aircraft crash site that is over 50 years old as an historic archaeological site.
