CRASH OF A SEAGULL V
INTO PORT PHILIP BAY, VIC
ON 15 FEBRUARY 1940
Art about 11am on 15 February 1940, Lindsay Braden was a passenger on the Paddle Steamer "Weeroona". As they were sailing down Port Philip Bay RAA Seagull seaplane A2-2, was visible in the far distance about 12 miles from Point Cook. The Steamer hurried to the spot after black smoke appeared. When they arrived at the scene, the aircraft had burnt and disappeared, and the two uninjured crew members were treading water. They were taken on board and disembarked at Queenscliff. The seaplane had taken off earlier from Point Cook.
