CRASH OF A P-40 KITTYHAWK,
12 MILES NORTH WEST OF MILDURA, VIC

Kittyhawk
F/Sgt Gerald Norman Sayce 410263 (21 yrs old), of No. 2 Operational Training Unit (2 OTU) Mildura was taking part in some shadow shooting exercises over Lake Victoria in New South Wales in RAAF P-40E Kittyhawk, A29-90. While returning to Mildura airfield at 500 feet, Sgt Sayce attempted to do a belly landing 12 miles north west of Mildura airfield. He died later that day in Mildura Base hospital of injuries sustained in the forced landing.
