On 31 January 1942, a USAAF Douglas A-24-DE Dauntless Serial No. #41-15808, piloted by Lieutenant Norman J. Davidson, crash landed at Archerfield airfield. A bad oil leak developed which caused poor visibility for the pilot. Its motor eventually stopped and it "spun in" on landing. It was damaged beyond repair.
