On an unknown date, the wreckage of a USAAF B-24 Liberator was located in the sea 1/2 mile off shore in the Cape Melville area.

It was exposed at low tide. Co-ordinates Lat. 14.12S, Long. 144.28E. This places it not far from another crash site of a USAAC C-47 Dakota, #42-93505 on 14 March 1945.
