CRASH OF AN B-26 MARAUDER
ON NORTH STRADBROKE ISLAND, QLD
ON 12 OCTOBER 1942

 

B-26 Marauder

 

A USAAF B-26 Marauder, #41-17553 "Chosef" of the 408th Bomb Squadron of the 22nd Bomb Group crashed landed during bad weather on a beach on North Stradbroke Island near Brisbane in Queensland on 12 October 1942. There were no injuries to personnel on board. It was on its delivery flight from Hawaii to Amberley Airfield. Its nose gear collapsed on the soft beach. There were no injuries. The B-26 was abandoned and written off.

This B-26 had earlier been flown by Capt. Chambliss Keith in Hawaii on 3 October 1942.
