I now have access to a record of the burials of US Servicemen at the Townsville US Cemetery. U.S. Servicemen, George F. Clueck (01-4-10246), was buried in the Townsville U.S. Cemetery on 24 October 1942 after being involved in an aircraft crash at Magnetic Island.

At this stage I have assumed that he was in a USAAC aircraft that crashed but it is worth noting that an R.A.A.F. Beaufort bomber, A9-26 clipped the mast of the wreck of the ship "City of Adelaide" in Cockle Bay, Magnetic Island during training on 22 October 1942. The RAAF crew of 4 servicemen were all killed. Did George hitch a ride on this Beaufort perhaps??

Can anyone help me with more information on this crash?
