CRASH OF A KITTYHAWK
AT BURONGA, NSW
ON 28 SEPTEMBER 1942
On 28 September 1942, RAAF P-40E Kittyhawk A29-89 (#41-25122) from No. 2 Operational Training Unit (2 OTU) based in Mildura, VIC, lost control at 6,000 feet and spun into the ground at Buronga in New South Wales (NSW), which is across the river from Mildura in Victoria and near Coomealla, NSW. The pilot, 21 year old Sgt. J. Havard (403868) was killed in the accident. The crash site is in what is now a citrus orchard at Boeill Creek.
