During World War 2 there was a bomb shelter in what is now the Sandgate Memorial Park.

The Sandgate Memorial Park is 400 metres from the seashore and 100 metres from Einbunpin Lagoon. There is a large ANZAC memorial in the park.

It is a short walk from the Sandgate Town Centre and the the nearby train station
