A Mark VIII RAAF Beaufort, Serial No. A9-501 of 1AD, piloted by Mr. Brockhouse, crashed at Gove on 18 August 1945 during a ferry flight. It was converted to components. This aircraft had been delivered to the RAAF in November 1943.

Parts of A9-501 have since been used to restore Beaufort A9-141 in Brisbane.

NOTE:-  Phil Herdman's information gives the date of the crash as 18 August 1945, while the book "Beaufort, Beaufighter and Mosquito - In Australian Service" indicates it happened in March 1945.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I would like to thank Phil Herdman of the Arnhem Land Historical Society for some details on the above crash.
