There have been varying reports of a large landing of Japanese troops on Rutland Downs Station during World War 2. Some stories have suggested as many as 400 Japanese troops landing. They were reportedly ambushed and killed by the North Australia Observer Unit, who were also known as the "Nackeroos" or "Curtin's Cowboys".

At this stage, I have no evidence to support this "story".
