BUNKER AT YARRAWONGA,
CASTLE HILL, TOWNSVILLE, QLD
DURING WW2
In late 2002, a small concrete bunker, reportedly 3 metres by 3 meters was demolished by developers at Yarrawonga on the bay-side slopes of Castle Hill in Townsville.
Does anyone have more information as to its exact location and size?
What was it used for?
There would have been many machine gun positions around the lower ridges of Castle Hill during World War 2. I was told of some in the Yarrawonga area and above Smyth Street at Belgian Gardens and of one directly above the Tobruk Baths on the cliffs below the houses. Could the small bunker at Yarrawonga have had something to do with these machine gun positions?
