CRASH OF A KITTYHAWK
AT GARBUTT AIRFIELD, QLD
ON 13 MARCH 1942
Kittyhawk
75 Squadron RAAF was formed in Townsville on 4 March 1942 when twenty five P-40E Kittyhawk's (A29-1 through to A29-25) were made available to the RAAF.
During operational training in the Townsville area on 13 March 1942, P-40E Kittyhawk A29-4 of 75 Squadron piloted by Sgt D.B. Davies, was involved in a landing accident at Garbutt airfield in Townsville. The aircraft was extensively damaged, but the pilot was uninjured.
NOTE:- Peter Nielsen's book, "Diary of WWII - North Queensland" shows this crash as March 1943.
